Layer3 is often misunderstood as a quest platform, and that usually goes away after someone has a conversation with myself or my cofounder Brandon. I’m writing this piece to serve as a reference for anyone looking to learn more about what we’ve built.
Layer3 is not a quest platform—it’s a consumer hub and a growth engine for the entire ecosystem.
Right now, projects use Layer3 to drive growth via ads and deploying token incentives. This is only possible because we’ve created a hub for consumers to spend time on – the same way internet platforms create a place where users spend time, then monetized it. The difference is the user accrues value instead of just the company behind the platform.
Layer3 has driven 170,000,000 transactions to its customers – apps and chains (Dune). As it moves to a permissionless model and defaults to L3 as the currency—L3 will become the essential token for every agent or protocol looking to drive actions.
The platform you see is a vertically integrated consumer hub where you can trade, explore, and earn other tokens via programmatic incentives for completing certain flows desired by protocols. Layer3 makes money in 2 ways: Projects may pay to use Layer3 tech and users may pay to claim rewards/incentives. All of this activity is stored in a credential called a CUBE, which is live on over 30 EVM chains and now Solana.
Layer3 has generated $12M in revenue YTD, mostly from protocol and trading fees.
Layer3 adopts a widely successful model on the internet. Build a good place for users to hang out, monetize that place by providing companies distribution, then build infrastructure and create value. The key difference is: the user captures outsized value. When was the last time you earned from using Google?
On Layer3, the user captures the value they create. $4M in incentives this year have been claimed via the Layer3 protocol, as well as hundreds of millions of dollars indirectly from users who have used chains via Layer3 that distributed tokens.
There’s one goal I have for Layer3: value creation at the size of Google.
